However, you must be attentive to produce such spiritual fruit.
You must have your spiritual antenna fully extended. You must be
vigilant to discern the voice of God in the circumstances in your
life each day. You must constantly ask, “What is really happening?
What does this particular circumstance mean?”
As a Christian, you cannot divide your life into secular and Christian
compartments. Your whole walk is spiritual, because Christ is life.
Of course, not everything you do, think, or say is spiritual; but your
walk is spiritual because you are a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Thus in everything God allows in your life, you must always look for
His fingerprint. You must listen for the voice of God in every sound.
9. Listen carefully.
Hebrews 4:12 - “For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any two edged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of
soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents
of the heart.”
In this verse God informs you that everything you hear is to be
sifted through the Word. Before you accept anything into your life,
you should filter it through the Scripture and eliminate anything that
contradicts Scripture.
If it is contrary to the Word of God, it should be purged. This is why
you must listen to Him carefully, because the Word of God reveals
the innermost intentions and motivations of your life. The Word of
God pulls back the veil so you can see the reality of all that is about
you. The light of the Word illuminates everything, enabling you to
discern truth from error. Whatever you hear you must thoroughly
check out against the absolute standard of His truth.
